ASSAYING & HALLMARKING REGULATIONS 2006 GAZETTED UNDER EXTRA ORDINARY GAZETTE NO. 1436/21 DATED 2006-03-17
Regulation 01
These regulations shall apply to jewellery manufactured in or imported into Sri Lanka for the purpose of trading and being offered for commercial or public sale, which are sold in such commercial or public sale.
Regulation 02
No person carrying on a jewellery industry shall, supply or offer to supply jewellery, made of Gold, Silver or Platinum or its alloys, to a purchaser or prospective purchaser unless such jewellery conforms to the authorized standards applicable in respect of gold, silver or Platinum set out in regulation 3 below.
Regulation 03
The authorized standards of fineness in respect of Gold, silver and platinum jewellery shall be as follows:-

NB: Items which cannot be marked due to smaller size or Technical reasons or subject to damage during marking are excepted from above marking but the subject item should conform to legal metal standards etc.
National Gem & Jewellery Authority Act. No. 50 of 1993 – Section 46- Description
No person carrying on the gem industry or the jewellery industry shall sell or offer for sale any gem or jewellery under any representation, description or circumstances having the capacity and tendency or effect of, or deceiving or misleading a purchaser or prospective purchaser, as regards the type, quality, quantity, size, weight or value of such gem or jewellery.
