Educating gold jewelery manufacturers and dealers
- When selling gold, silver, jewelry, it is mandatory to stamp the manufacturer’s mark / warranty mark on the jewelry.
- The mark must be registered with the National Gem and Jewelery Authority.
Cost will be Rs.5000.00 + (VAT) for 10 years for registration of the said patronage mark. - All marketing jewelery must comply with Sri Lanka gold, silver and platinum standards. In the future, all the jewelery stores will be inspected by the authority regarding the mark and standards of the manufacturer/responsibility and from 01.01.2023, I hereby inform that action will be taken against the jewelery manufacturers/traders/individuals who do not fulfill the conditions as per the provisions of the Gazette Notification and the National Gems and Jewelery Authority Act.
Prior to 01.01.2023, registration for the maker’s mark should be done at the Precious Metal Assaying and Hallmarking Division of the National Gems and Jewelery Authority located at Maxons Tower, Alfred House Garden, Colombo 03.
Jewellery Industrialists Registration Process
Licenses will be issued after completing the following documents and submitting them to the authority.
- Application form issued by the authority
- Photocopy of National Identity Card
- A photocopy along with the original of the relevant registration certificate issued by the Registrar of Companies Registration, Provincial Business Names Registrar, including Gem Trade in case of Sole Proprietorship or Partnership or Company
Fees charged for obtaining a Jewellery Industrialists Registration Certificate
- Jewellery Registration Certificate – Rs. 5000.00
- To get one day – Rs. 1000 + VAT
- To obtain a color card – Rs. 1000 + VAT
