Signed Terms of Reference with the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka

The National Gem and Jewellery Authority Sri Lanka (NGJA) signed Terms of Reference (TOR) with the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (FIU) on 17.03.2026 in facilitating joint supervision of the licensed dealers of precious metals and precious and semi-precious stones (DPMS) on compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering, Countering Terrorist Financing and Countering the Proliferation Financing (AML/CFT/CPF) Regulations.

In terms of Section 23 of the Financial Transactions Reporting Act, No. 6 of 2006 (FTRA), the NGJA is recognized as the regulatory and supervisory authority of the DPMS sector in Sri Lanka and conducts risk-based supervision on compliance with AML/CFT/CPF regulations jointly with the FIU. The primary objective of the TOR is to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and enhance compliance level within the sector.

Dr. S.P.Chaminda, Chairman & CEO, Mr. Janath Jayawardena (Attorney-at-Law), Board Director (NGJA) and Dr. Subhani Keerthiratne, Director (FIU) signed the TOR on behalf of the respective institutions and it marks the continued commitment in safeguarding the integrity of the gem and jewellery industry and the financial system of the country at large.
